Rooms That Feel Brand New

Interior painting is the masking, wall repair, priming, and repainting of the inside surfaces of a home, including walls, ceilings, trim, doors, and cabinets, typically done room by room so the house stays usable while the work happens.

Most of an interior job is protection and preparation. Covering what stays, repairing what is damaged, and cutting clean lines by hand is what separates a repaint you stop noticing from one you notice every day.

How It Works

Our Interior Painting Process

Seven steps. The protection and repair steps are the ones that decide how the finished room looks.

  1. Walk the rooms and put the scope in writing

We confirm which surfaces are included, walls only or walls plus ceilings, trim, and doors, and note any wall damage that needs repair first. The estimate separates repair from paint.

  2. Move what we can and cover what stays

Furniture moves to the centre of the room and gets covered. Floors get papered or dropped, and fixtures, hardware, and anything left in place gets masked.

  3. Repair the walls before any colour goes on

Nail pops, cracks, dents, and holes get patched and textured to match the surrounding wall. Paint does not hide damage, it highlights it.

  4. Caulk and prime where it is needed

Trim gaps get caulked, and patches, bare drywall, and stains get spot primed so the finish coat covers evenly instead of flashing at every repair.

  5. Cut and roll two finish coats

Lines get cut by hand at ceilings, trim, and corners. Two coats, so the colour is even and the sheen is consistent across the wall.

  6. Clean up at the end of every day

Not just at the end of the job. You should be able to use the house while we are working in it.

  7. Walk the rooms with you before we pack up

We go through with the scope in hand and touch up anything you point out while the crew and the paint are still there.

Scope

What We Paint Inside a House

Any combination of these. Most jobs are walls plus trim, and adding ceilings while the room is already masked costs less than coming back for them later.

  • Walls and ceilings
  • Baseboards, casing, and crown moulding
  • Interior doors and door frames
  • Cabinets and built-ins
  • Accent walls and applied panel moulding
  • Wall repair and texture matching before painting
  • Popcorn ceiling removal and smooth-finish refinishing

Popcorn Ceiling Removal

Popcorn texture gets scraped off, the ceiling is skimmed and sanded flat, then primed and painted. It is the single biggest visual change you can make to a 1980s or 1990s house without moving a wall, and it is much cheaper to do while a room is already masked for painting than as its own project.

One caution worth taking seriously: popcorn ceilings in homes built before roughly 1980 can contain asbestos. Have it tested before anyone scrapes it. We will not start that work on a pre-1980 ceiling without a test.

Pricing

What Decides the Price of an Interior Repaint

Every interior is priced from a walkthrough. These are the five things we are measuring.

Which surfaces are included
Walls only is a very different job from walls, ceilings, trim, and doors. Trim is the slowest surface in any room because it is all cut work.
How much repair the walls need
A room that needs patching and texture matching before it can be painted takes an extra stage. It is priced separately so you can see it.
Ceiling height and room complexity
Vaulted and two-storey spaces need scaffold or a lift. Lots of corners, niches, and built-ins mean more cut work and less rolling.
Colour change versus refresh
Covering a dark colour with a light one, or going to a deep saturated colour, can need an extra coat.
Whether the house is occupied
Working around furniture and a family takes longer than an empty house. It is completely normal, it just affects the schedule.

Questions

Interior Painting Questions

How long does it take to paint a room?

A standard bedroom with walls only is usually a single day including prep and two coats. Add ceilings, trim, and doors and it is closer to two. Whole-house interiors run a week or more depending on how many rooms and how much repair the walls need.

How much does interior painting cost in Fort Worth?

It comes down to which surfaces are included, how much wall repair is needed first, ceiling height, whether you are changing colour dramatically, and whether the house is occupied. We measure all of that at the walkthrough and put the number in writing. Estimates are free.

Do I need to move my furniture?

No. We move what can be moved to the centre of the room and cover it. If you have anything genuinely fragile or irreplaceable, we would rather you move that yourself before we start.

Do you paint ceilings and trim as well as walls?

Yes, and it is worth deciding up front. Fresh walls against old trim and a dingy ceiling is the most common regret people have after an interior repaint, because the new paint makes the old surfaces look worse than they did before.

How many coats do you apply?

Two finish coats as standard, over spot primer on any patches, bare drywall, or stains. One heavy coat is not the same thing and it does not wear the same way.

Do you repair wall damage before painting?

Yes. Nail pops, cracks, dents, and holes get patched and textured to match the surrounding wall before any paint goes on. Paint does not hide damage. See drywall repair for larger repairs.

Can you remove popcorn ceiling texture?

Yes. The texture is scraped off, the ceiling is skimmed and sanded to a smooth finish, and then it is primed and painted. It is a dusty job, so the room gets fully masked and we run a vacuum at the sander. Note that popcorn ceilings in houses built before roughly 1980 can contain asbestos and should be tested before anyone scrapes anything.

What kind of paint do you use in bathrooms and kitchens?

Those rooms get a higher sheen and a moisture-resistant product, because flat paint in a bathroom does not survive the humidity. Sheen also affects how much wall imperfection shows, so we talk it through room by room at the walkthrough.

Other Work We Do

If the walls need patching before they can be painted, that is drywall repair, and the same crew handles it. If you are also thinking about the outside of the house, see exterior painting.
